Ionios is a naughty dolphin, and sports a punk haircut. This “little prince” of our sea is Taranto symbol, as well as a reminder of the happiness that playing in the water gives. Indeed, dolphins are ubiquitous in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, they are counted by the thousands off the shores of the Gulf of Taranto, and they often show up in our waters. Taranto was a glorious, thriving city during Hellenic times, its ancient history is studded with events where the dolphin, symbol of Apollo’s favour, stood for joy and good omen brought to a city of paramount importance in the Mediterranean Sea, back then as well as these days.
